Something New ….

March 26, 2010

You may have noticed a few new things around Kellie Carter Photography these days! =]

Last fall after I returned from LA, I met with the fabulous Serif Group in Lexington, Ky to discuss new branding for my photography business. I knew this was something I wanted to focus more on and I needed someone to guide and assist me.  Jackie and Bill Powell were above and beyond what I expected and I felt certain they would be an excellent fit in helping me with this new direction.

I went into this process with very few ideas of what I wanted and looking at the final results I am truly amazed how well they were able to capture ‘me’ in the design!

I am so proud of my new logo and can’t wait to start incorporating these changes into my work!

Kellie from KY meets Victor Sizemore from KY!

March 26, 2010

My second full day  in Vegas was spent in the desert … in the middle of the desert!
It was gorgeous!  Even though I always enjoy the beautiful views of my home state of KY, being able to travel and see different places is always exciting!

This adventure took us about 30 minutes outside of Vegas to a dry lake bottom.  I did wonder about the ‘dry’ lake bottom when I noticed a few puddles …. guess that didn’t help our charter bus from sinking!!!!!  I really thought I would walk back to Vegas, but thankfully our bus driver recovered from the precarious situation he found himself in!

The setting the was arranged for our style shoot was simply breathtaking!

It was so nice to meet Summer Watkins again!  She was the stylist for the Jessica Claire workshop I attended in September!  She is so talented!

One really cool thing about my day happened while a few of the workshop attendees were standing around talking with Victor Sizemore.  He said something with a slight southern accent and I heard it, but it didn’t really register with me.  A girl standing near me asked him if was orginally from the South ….. My mouth hit the floor when he responded he was born and raised in KY!  I couldn’t believe it …. so I moved in closer and asked where in KY.  I really couldn’t believe my ears when he said Clay County … and hour from where I was born and raised!  This was so cool to me on so many levels! =]

I know I have mentioned how cold it was …. but it was really really really cold!  I could barely feel my fingers, but that didn’t stop us from shooting until the very last minute!  Victor literally pulled the chord on the lighting in order to get us to load the bus to head back!  =}

The following people made this possible for all of us:

This is my friend and roommate Kari from Salt Lake City! We sat beside each other at the JC workshop and she has become a great friend!  We had a blast together!

I hope you enjoy these images too!

Please leave me a note if you do … I would love to hear from you!  =]

Vegas continued …….

March 26, 2010

When I decided to go to WPPI I noticed a shooting workshop mentioned via Twitter and I thought it would be a great opportunity!
There were 21 other photographers from all over the country that met up on the bridge between the MGM and New York New York.  It was a beautiful day and everyone was anxious to see what the next couple hours would hold!
Our models for the day were Monique & Dustin!  These newlyweds were so sweet and in love!  They were a complete joy to photograph …. gracious, helpful and beautiful!

Stephen Knuth was our  host and the shoot was sponsored by Showit!

These are only a few of my very favorites that I wanted to share!

Enjoy ……

Jenna and Josh

March 25, 2010

I met Jenna and Josh at a wedding early last summer! They were so fun to be around and literally the life of the party! (These two have some serious dancing skills!) I couldn’t have been any more excited when I got the call they were engaged and getting married too!

On the day of their February wedding we all woke up to a small blanket of snow, but that did not hinder the hustle and bustle of getting ready and all their friends and family that came to share their new beginning!

Thank you for sharing your day with me as well! It was a beautiful and I wish you a life full of happiness and love! ~Kellie

‘*’ Wisdom

March 19, 2010

One of the biggest reasons that influenced me to drop what I was doing and go to WPPI at the last minute was the remote possibility of being able to hear Jasmine Star as a platform speaker!  I loooooooove  her and her work and I knew that would be a major highlight of 2010!!

She was scheduled to speak at 6:30 on Monday evening!  The minute I finished up with the shoot on the Vegas strip, I literally took off to my room…… exchanged my camera bags for my purse, pen and paper and off I went.  This being only 4:00 I was on a mission.  I had heard about long lines for popular speakers and people being turned away at the door and I knew I would be crushed if this happened to me.  On my mad dash I picked up one of those $15.00 tasteless sandwhichs and continued my sprint.  I was practically out of breath when I rounded the corner and was greeted with an amazingly looooooong line already.  My heart sank, but I took my place in line…. made myself a table on the floor with my sandwhich and waited.  Not too long after that an event worker came by counting heads … I was #307 in line! The room was supposed to hold around 900 people.  I was so excited!  Would you believe this crazy guy walked by and wanted to know what we were waiting in line for and when we told him he said ‘who?’.  Myself and the people around me just looked at him in disbelief with our mouths open…. Seriously?

When the line started moving somehow my #307 went to #670!  How did that happen???  Regardless, I was in!!

If there was a ‘nose bleed’ section for this event my seat was definitely in it…. but I really didn’t care!  I was going to be in the presence of  ’the’Jasmine Star!!

Her presentation was everything it was hyped up to be!  I left feeling uplifted and inspired.  My notes from that night are a little tattered because I have carried them with me and read over them several times.  Her topic was ‘Ghetto Fabulous Marketing’!  She made us laugh and feel good about our journey.

One thing I left Vegas and WPPI with was a quote that Jasmine’s husband JD told her when she was facing the decision to go back to law school or follow her dream to be a photographer.

It went something like this:

‘I would rather see you fail at something you love, than succeed at something you hate’.

I can’t hep but believe this was a point in her life and career that she will never forget and I don’t think I will ever forget it either!  It takes me by the throat and squeezes me until I remember to breathe again …….. and remind myself to keep dreaming.

I didn’t want to leave you without a photo so here I am out in the desert again!  I told you I was COLD!!!!  I promise AGAIN …  I will show you more of the models for these shoots soon!   Stay tuned …..
