Getting started in this business is not an easy task. There becomes a point where you have grown as much as you can on your own and you really need/want an experienced individual to help guide and inspire you over the next few hurdles in your way !
This was me in 2008. I was having a hard time meeting other photographers .. I was feeling a little discouraged.
My life simply changed in August 2008.
I had emailed two photographers that I admired. One was an hour and half away … the other lived at least 8 hours away.
Guess what happened? They both emailed ME back with in a few hours of each other! I was estatic and felt so relieved and over joyed that not one, but two people loved photography enough to take the time to encourage me and offer to answer a few questions.
The first photographer was Tim Webb!
Since 2008 we have become great friends and I enjoy shooting with Tim any opportunity I have. I have learned so much about technical ability, ways to grow my business and a lot about myself as a photographer on this journey with his help.
The second photographer was Darbi!
At the time, she was a new bride herself and she had such a fun and artistic style that I was drawn too. She not only took the time out of her busy schedule to email me back, but took an interest in my ability and encouraged me to take the plunge and order the equipment I really needed to be serious about my business!
Darbi posted on her Facebook page several months ago about the engagement of her brother, Troy to a sweet girl named Wendy! She also mentioned the wedding was to be in Louisville, Ky! I emailed her and told her I would be more than happy to assist her on this day since she would be traveling to KY! To my delight she quickly accepted my offer and we were all set for May 2010!
While attending WPPI earlier this year I had the opportunity to meet Darbi in person for the first time! Wouldn’t you know we were texting each other one morning and come to find out she was sitting two rows in front of me! We also attended the Victor Sizemore shoot out in the desert together!
Small world! =]
Okay .. there is a point to all of this I promise and that is the absolutely beautiful wedding day of Troy and Wendy!
The day was finally here! I was so excited when I arrived at the Church and got to meet everyone! I was welcomed in every way!
Darbi posted her entry with her awesome images and perspective a few weeks ago here: http://blog.darbig.com/2010/06/speech-id-have-given-if-id-have-given.html
I just wanted to share my part of the story of this Fun and Gorgeous day!!
I first got to meet Wendy and all of her adorable bridesmaids! Aren’t these the cutest dresses?? I loved the colors Wendy had chosen for her wedding day!
Next, I was off to meet all the boys! They were just hanging out …. waiting!
We even got a lesson on … well, I think it was a playbook for football … I don’t know…I just kept taking photos! =]
I loved watching Troy write in his card ‘to’ Wendy and of course open his card ‘from’ Wendy after he was dressed and ready for the ceremony!
Isn’t Wendy a BEAUTIFUL bride!!!!
The parents were a lot of fun too! The mothers were trying to be the photographers while the Dads patiently waited to get the show on the road!
I love the emotions of a bride with her parents right before entering the Church …..
I photographed these bouquets every chance I got ….. I loved them!!!
My birds eye view from the balcony was breath taking!
Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs!!
After the ceremony we set out in the limo and stopped a few times along the way for portraits!
Wendy gave me a few poses while Darbi was getting the boys in order!
This was my view!
Congratulations Troy and Wendy! I was so honored to be a part of your special day! I wish you all the happiness in the world and I look forward to keeping in touch!!~Kellie
I couldn’t leave the reception without a photo with Darbi! Thank You Neil for taking our picture! =]
