Living a life Full of Gratitude …..

August 24, 2010

This past weekend I attended a Beth Moore conference with my Mom and Sister in Lexington, KY.  There were so many wonderful things that I walked away with in my heart, but one that really resonated with me was her encouragement to live a life full of gratitude!

I left Rupp Arena and after a quick lunch I was off to photograph a wedding!  In the back of my mind I knew my low tire pressure light was on, but after checking all tires and everything appeared to be okay I went on.  I finished up my evening and drove home….. the light was still on.  When I pulled into the garage I did sigh a relief for making it safely home.

Fast forward to Monday morning when I took my car to have it checked out ……  this is what was found in my tire:

_MG_8428

I kept the screw in my pocket the rest of the day.  I noticed it several times, but it wasn’t until I got home that I pulled it out… ready to toss it… when I realized the message it was clearly trying to impose on me!

There were so many things within a 48 hour time span that I needed to be thankful for simply because of this object lodged in one of my tires.  So many things that could have gone ‘wrong’, but they did not.

It may seem small and forgotten now, but I chose to keep this item so I will see it often and be reminded to be grateful for the blessings in my life… both small and large, both expected and unexpected, both joyful and sorrowful and feel blessed with each day!  ~Kellie

The Wedding Day of Kristin and Wes

August 17, 2010

This wedding day was straight out of a little girl’s wedding dream book!

It was gorgeous and beautiful in every way!

So many times during the day I caught myself dreaming of throwing my own daughter a wedding like this one!  Every detail was centered around family and the day was more than any bride could possibly dream of!

The girls were getting ready at the Bride’s grandparents home.  You could easily imagine Kristin running through this lovely home as a child.  =]

Our Family Adventure to Southern California

August 10, 2010

Shannon and I decided several months ago that we were going to take a different kind of vacation this summer and let our kids experience new and exciting places along with us!  This year we chose to travel to Southern California!

Shannon and I were excited and the kids were along for the ride!  =]  We only offered to ship them back home a few times!  They were overall great travelers!

Here is a Cliff Note version of our adventure documented by my point and shoot camera Shannon gave me for my birthday!  =]

Our first stop was San Diego!  Loved this city!  While our family and friends were sweating it out home in KY we were enjoying 65 degree weather!  (I will not lie … I was cold!)  =]  It was beautiful though!!

We had enough daylight when we arrived to take the ferry over to Coronado Island!

Baby Cailyn

July 5, 2010

It is no secret that I love newborns …. love, love, love them!

Baby Cailyn was a tiny three weeks old when she came to visit me.  She had the smoothest skin and the most beautiful hair!  Her sweet Mom had made the appointment and when they arrived her Daddy and I were surprised to make the connection that we have known each other for many years!

Once a newborn gets settled in to a deep sleep, I could photograph them all day!  Sometimes I think Mom and Dad get worried that I might just try to keep them, but now worries ….. I will bring them back at bedtime!  =]

After each newborn session I generally announce I have a ‘new’ favorite image …….. this one is no exception!  I could hang an enlargement of this sleeping beauty right over my own fireplace!! Sigh ……

Such sweet dreams!

Cori and Preston

July 5, 2010

I met Cori and Preston for the first time on New Year’s Day!  They were such a sweet couple  and I got very excited about their description of their outdoor wedding ceremony they were planning mid-May at Cumberland Falls State Park!  Before we turned around it seemed, their wedding day had arrived!

Although Sarah Burton and I have known each other for quite some time, this was my first opportunity to work with her at wedding!  She did a beautiful job planning and coordinating Cori and Preston’s wedding day!

What started out as a gorgeous hot, humid and sunny day quickly turned into something that wasn’t at all what we had planned, but as the old saying goes, ‘If Life gives you lemons …. let’s make lemonade!’  That is exactly what this team of wedding vendors did to despite rain that none of us wanted to see!

To get the day started ……….I loved the details of Cori’s dress and bouquet!

CoriandPrestonblog1

The anticipation while getting ready is one of my favorite things to photograph on a wedding day!  It was also a great honor this day to have my friend, Tim second shoot with me as well!  He covered the guys getting ready while I stayed close by with Cori!

CoriandPrestonblog2

One of those memories between Mother and Daughter one will never forget …..

CoriandPrestonblog3

We were able to get a few photos in at the outdoor wedding ceremony site, before the clouds opened up!

CoriandPrestonblog4

And then it started to rain …… and it rained a little harder …. and then even a little bit more .. and more and more … you get the point!  =]

A loud clap of thunder forced us all inside very quickly and the decision was made to move the wedding indoors.

Despite the disappointment after months of planning everyone pulled together and made it happen!

CoriandPrestonblog5

Even though it wasn’t outdoors, the bride and groom were the same, the guests were the same, the ceremony was the same … it was a beautiful wedding!

CoriandPrestonblog6

CoriandPrestonblog7

After the ceremony, we had planned for the new Mr.and Mrs. to go down to the falls with me for photos, but wouldn’t you know it was raining even more!!

CoriandPrestonblog8

We started with few photos indoors ….

CoriandPrestonblog9

And then we moved to the front porch of the hotel!

I always say that location isn’t as important to me as my subjects and this day proved to be very true!

This happens to be one of my favorite weddings photos ever …….

Cori and Preston-1

Preston absolutely adores Cori and this photo to me just captured that in such a deep and caring way!

CoriandPrestonblog10

After we finished up with formal photos were off to the reception!  Sarah and her team did an amazing job with the decorations!  I just happen to love orange and yellow and together they were so adorable!

CoriandPrestonblog12

It is now official .. the marriage license signed and cake to the face!  =]

CoriandPrestonblog14

Congratulations to the two of you and I wish you many years of happiness and blessings!  Thank you for sharing your day with me and I look forward to keeping in touch!  ~Kellie

June 25, 2010

I was very touched tonight when it was brought to my attention that one of my favorite photos from a Flashes of Hope session is featured on the national website rotation tonight!

www.flashesofhope.org

It is a great blessing to me to be able to share my love for photography with these children and very humbled my work is being featured.

These children touch your heart in so many ways and their beauty makes me smile!
