Merry Christmas from our House!

December 24, 2010

When the kids started getting restless and asked for the 10,000th time if was time to go to their Grandparent’s house for Christmas Eve, that is when I told them to get dressed it was picture time!  =]

Dalton will be 12 in 3 weeks and Emma is 7 going on 17!

(Miley is 3 and is not amused at her new Christmas outfit!)

Be still my heart ……

I cannot believe that I have an ‘almost’ teenager in our house!!  Unbelievable how much he has grown!  He constantly likes to remind me that I am getting short!  =]

This was just too funny not to include!  Technically it should have been tossed, but it just expressed her mood!

This one was a little better, but she is never amused when it comes to taking her photograph!

Spoiled Rotten ..

October 13, 2010

This is Miley….  even though she is ‘technically’ Dalton’s dog …. she is really mine!

She will tell you so too if you ask her!

If she isn’t under my feet she is in my lap at all times when I am home!

I never thought I was a ‘dog’ person until this fur ball came home with us for a Christmas surprise!

She is pretty rotten and even when there are times I would like to send her to obedience school, I really wouldn’t trade her for anything in the world!

She got a haircut today so I felt it was a perfect opportunity for her to model her new Halloween dress.

She was not amused, but it was cute anyway!!

Our Family Adventure to Southern California

August 10, 2010

Shannon and I decided several months ago that we were going to take a different kind of vacation this summer and let our kids experience new and exciting places along with us!  This year we chose to travel to Southern California!

Shannon and I were excited and the kids were along for the ride!  =]  We only offered to ship them back home a few times!  They were overall great travelers!

Here is a Cliff Note version of our adventure documented by my point and shoot camera Shannon gave me for my birthday!  =]

Our first stop was San Diego!  Loved this city!  While our family and friends were sweating it out home in KY we were enjoying 65 degree weather!  (I will not lie … I was cold!)  =]  It was beautiful though!!

We had enough daylight when we arrived to take the ferry over to Coronado Island!

A ‘Trendy’ Wedding

June 28, 2010

Getting started in this business is not an easy task.  There becomes a point where you have grown as much as you can on your own and you really need/want an experienced individual to help guide and inspire you over the next few hurdles in your way !

This was me in 2008.  I was having a hard time meeting other photographers .. I was feeling a little discouraged.

My life simply changed in August 2008.

I had emailed two photographers that I admired.  One was an hour and half away … the other lived at least 8 hours away.

Guess what happened?  They both emailed ME back with in a few hours of each other!  I was estatic and felt so relieved and over joyed that not one, but two people loved photography enough to take the time to encourage me and offer to answer a few questions.

The first photographer was Tim Webb!

Since 2008  we have become great friends and I enjoy shooting with Tim any opportunity I have.  I have learned so much about technical ability, ways to grow my business and a lot about myself as a photographer on this journey with his help.

The second photographer was Darbi!

At the time, she was a new bride herself  and she had such a fun and artistic style that I was drawn too.  She not only took the time out of her busy schedule to email me back, but took an interest in my ability and encouraged me to take the plunge and order the equipment I really needed to be serious about my business!

Darbi posted on her Facebook page several months ago about the engagement of her brother, Troy to a sweet girl named Wendy!  She also mentioned the wedding was to be in Louisville, Ky!  I emailed her and told her I would be more than happy to assist her on this day since she would be traveling to KY!  To my delight she quickly accepted my offer and we were all set for May 2010!

While attending WPPI earlier this year I  had the opportunity to meet Darbi in person for the first time!  Wouldn’t you know we were texting each other one morning and come to find out she was sitting two rows in front of me!  We also attended the Victor Sizemore shoot out in the desert together!

Small world!  =]

Okay .. there is a point to all of this I promise and that is the absolutely beautiful wedding day of Troy and Wendy!

The day was finally here!   I was so excited when I arrived at the Church and got to meet everyone!  I was welcomed in every way!

Darbi posted her entry with her awesome images and perspective a few weeks ago here:  http://blog.darbig.com/2010/06/speech-id-have-given-if-id-have-given.html

I just wanted to share my part of the story of this Fun and Gorgeous day!!

I first got to meet Wendy and all of her adorable bridesmaids!  Aren’t these the cutest dresses??  I loved the colors Wendy had chosen for her wedding day!

TroyandWendyBlog1

Next, I was off to meet all the boys!  They were just hanging out  …. waiting!

We even got a lesson on … well, I think it was a playbook for football … I don’t know…I just kept taking photos!  =]

TroyandWendyBlog2

I loved watching Troy write in his card ‘to’ Wendy and of course open his card ‘from’ Wendy after he was dressed and ready for the ceremony!

TroyandWendyBlog3

Isn’t Wendy a BEAUTIFUL bride!!!!

TroyandWendyBlog4

The parents were a lot of fun too!  The mothers were trying to be the photographers while the Dads patiently waited to get the show on the road!

TroyandWendyBlog5

I love the emotions of a bride with her parents right before entering the Church …..

TroyandWendyBlog6

I photographed these bouquets every chance I got ….. I loved them!!!

TroyandWendyBlog7

My birds eye view from the balcony was breath taking!

TroyandWendyBlog8

Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs!!

After the ceremony we set out in the limo and stopped a few times along the way for portraits!

Wendy gave me a few poses while Darbi was getting the boys in order!

This was my view!

“Her Children Call Her Blessed”

May 19, 2010

It seems I have gone MIA for a few weeks from my blog!  I promise I am here … just busy…. taking the term ‘burning the candle at both ends’ literally.  Not that is a good thing, but it is the truth.

I was rushed this morning…. as usual, and needed to stop by the funeral home for visitation of an elderly lady that once attended our Church.  The family was not there to accept any visitors, but I quietly slipped in and slipped out after paying my respects.

When I sat back down in my car I flipped over the page of memory that I had picked up inside and there …. it struck me.  The words on the page made me smile in memory of this woman  and feel sad that my life of being hurried and busy may not be remembered as such.

I guess there are days we just need this reminder and today …….. was one of mine!

Just a few excerpts …..

‘….. She departed this life and frail body ….. for a far better life for which she was well prepared.’

‘From a young age, and throughout her entire life, she herself worked hard on a daily basis, to meet the needs of her family and friends.’

‘Never given to idleness at any point in her life, she personified the virtuous woman described in the 31st chapter of Proverbs.’

‘…. Remained faithful by all accounts to her husband of near 64 years, who once described her as the most unselfish person he knew.  He could safely trust in her to preserve the family honor no matter how long he was called away.’

‘Pious in faith and zealous for the Lord her entire life from her earliest days.  Always ready to admonish another with a meek and quiet spirit with both words and deeds.’

‘Her Children call her blessed.’

Thank you Mrs. Rickett for living a life with purpose and example.

I wanted  this post to also have a photo and I chose one of of myself with my children ….. two of my many reasons I feel blessed!
